Guy Hernandez

Guy is a Landscape Horticulturalist for Fleur Nooyen & Associates. He has been working with plants since he was a young boy mowing lawns on weekends to earn an allowance. Growing up in East Los Angeles he learned to appreciate green spaces in a busy urban environment as well as the diversity of plants and wildlife they provided.

He attended Mt. San Antonio College and earned an A.S. in Ornamental Horticulture while working full-time at Descanso Gardens, a botanical garden in La Cañada Flintridge. After working at the gardens for 4 years and receiving a promotion from gardener to Displays/ Plant Propagation Horticulturalist he decided to leave his job to pursue higher education.

Guy now holds a B.S. degree in Plant Science and a M.S. degree in Agriculture from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. His research focused on using a phenology-based timing approach to manage multiple invasive plant species grown in a natural setting.

He enjoys working with FNA as it gives him the opportunity to work with others who enjoy what they do, and who share the same practices and goals as himself. When not working for FNA he enjoys hiking, kayaking, and relaxing in a hammock listening to nature.
